Getting Started T4GC Assets Colours_edi

Twenty years ago, organisations competed on who could build software. Over the next decade, they will compete on who asks better questions.

For years, technology adoption in the social sector has followed a familiar pattern: First, a new tool appears. Everyone gets excited. A few organisations experiment with it. And eventually, many tools disappear because they were never designed around how organisations in the impact space actually work.

With Artificial Intelligence (AI), for the first time, technology can become more accessible to the teams that were historically left out of building it. Adapting to this technological shift is not as straightforward as learning to use AI. It is of utmost importance to understand its limits as much as its possibilities.

For years, turning organisational questions into technology meant hiring developers, waiting through long implementation cycles, and relying on external teams to interpret your needs.

This is beginning to change.

AI can now help organisations unify siloed data, generate reports, prototype dashboards, automate workflows, and even build software simply by describing problems in natural language- a way of working referred to as vibe coding. With this making building easier, the real challenges begins to shift. The organisations that will benefit the most from AI are not the ones with the largest engineering teams. They will be the ones that know what to ask about their data, the prompts.

Insight Out is here to exactly build in that capacity for social enterprises.

Insight Out is our space where we work with social enterprises to explore where AI can genuinely help, where human judgement must remain at the centre, and how the sector can collectively shape the AI systems of tomorrow.

Why is this crucial today?

This social sector works with some of the most complex problems in the world. They understand communities, contexts, behaviours, and realities that no internet search can fully capture.

Yet most AI systems today were not built with this knowledge in mind. We agree that they know a lot. But they don’t always know what matters.

Imagine a gathering where nonprofits, technologists, researchers, and communities  come together and build that kind of a future: thoughtfully, responsibly, and together.

A teaser of our first ever Insight Out in Bangalore. A full day workshop led my our mentor Kailash Nadh, CTO, Zerodha.

What happens at Insight Out?

We help teams understand AI beyond the hype.

It’s never about “Which AI tool should I use?”

Instead we focus on a core question to unpack:

“Where does AI actually belong in ones' work?”

Participants explore several trends:

Large language models; AI agents; Responsible AI; Open-source ecosystems.

Every organisation brings real questions from their own work and experiment with their datasets to uncover insights.

Through a workshop mode they go back with:

Shared learnings, discovering common challenges, exchange approaches, and build solutions that can travel beyond a single organisation.

The goal is to remove friction so people can focus on the work that needs them the most.

We believe that social impact organisations should become contributors and not just be restricted as consumers of AI.

Data, Insights and the process of getting there sooner

Every organisation carries valuable intelligence:

Years of field experience

Community relationships

Programme learnings

Implementation knowledge

Stories hidden inside reports and datasets

The challenge is that it is scattered, disconnected, and rarely transformed into insights that can benefit teams within, across and beyond organisations.

During Chennai's Insight Out edition, a participant shares why these sessions and conversations matter.

Every Insight Out chapter teaches us:

Where does AI work? Where does it fail? What does the social sector uniquely need? What safeguards are necessary?

These learnings become part of a larger effort to build responsible, contextual AI infrastructure for the sector.

We imagine a future where AI does not only understand commercial problems. It understands communities, grassroots work and the language of development.

Everyone is talking about prompts, agents, automation, and the next big breakthrough.

But there is a question we don’t hear enough:

Who is teaching AI about the realities of

social change?

Note: This is not that workshop where you imagine that you will leave with just prettier dashboards ;)

Partner with us!

We love bringing Insight Out chapters to diverse audiences and various cities. And we believe we can do it with partners who would enjoy this ride with us. Funders, nonprofits, incubators and changemakers, hit us up if you'd like to co-conspire events with us.
