Every good thing starts with a gathering.
Kite strings have an interesting way of finding each other. Crossing, tangling and sometime creating the most unexpected battles in the sky. For us, ideas work the same way. They get stronger when they meet, challenge each other and find new directions.
Jamghat is where these threads meet.
The word Jamghat comes from the gatherings around kite festivals: crowded terraces, tangled threads, many hands pulling in different directions, and somehow, something beautiful takes flight.
Over the years, Jamghat has taken many forms: community gatherings, workshops, conversations, collaborations, and spaces we continue to hold open- offline and online. Some are carefully designed. Some happen because the right people found each other at the right time. Some we stepped into. Some keep returning because there is still something worth exploring. And some, we listened.
Here is a small glimpse of what we think was our first ever Jamghat. 2018, our first thread of hope. At Jagrutha Mahila Sanghatne, a Dalit women-led collective in Raichur, led by the late Narasamma, to whom we owe the spark that led Tech4Good Community in motion.
Many of our strongest partnerships started with a chat. Not every kite takes the same path once it catches the wind. Some rise quickly. Some need a little more patience. A few changes direction completely. And some, if we're being very honest, leave you with a bit of a neck pain for the long look ups ;)
But we are sure of one thing now. That every good kite story needs a little wind, a willing hand, and occasionally a sore neck the next morning.
Here are some of our spaces where Jamghat comes alive.
