Code of Conduct

Tech4Good Community (T4GC) brings together people who build and use technology for social good: practitioners, technologists, researchers, funders, government partners, and the communities we work alongside. In this multi-disciplinary nature of work, it is important that our growing community feels safe, respected, and free to take part in all gatherings and interactions hosted by us, online and offline.

T4GC is committed to providing a harassment-free, inclusive experience for everyone, regardless of age, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, caste, religion, language, nationality, socio-economic background, or professional designation.

This Code applies to everyone at a T4GC event including attendees, speakers, panellists, sponsors, exhibitors, partners, volunteers, vendors, organisers, staff, photographers, associates and guests.

It applies at all T4GC events and gatherings that include:

  • Event venues, sessions, workshops, and breakout rooms organised or co-organised by T4GC

  • Official meetings, and team meals  linked to the event

  • Online spaces, including registration or communication channels, tech forums, chat groups, social media posts where T4GC is the primary anchor.

  • Travel and accommodation arranged by T4GC.

Violations

The following behaviors exhibit misconduct and not tolerated at any event or gathering organised by T4GC:

  • Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination of any kind. This includes verbal and non-verbal commentary including but not limited to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, ethnicity, caste, religion, and professional choices.

  • Making untoward advances, inappropriate, objectified or sexualised images and language in talks, slides, or online spaces.

  • Disruption of sessions  or sustained heckling.

  • Stalking, following, or unwanted persistent contact, in person or online.

  • Photographing, recording or sharing images of people without their consent

  • Publishing or sharing someone's private information without consent.

  • Using substances on the premises of any official event in a way that harms or disturbs peace.

  •

Photos and recordings may be taken at official sessions. Look out for any no-photo indicators and respect them. If you do not want to be photographed, tell an organiser or volunteer.

T4GC  reserves the right to take appropriate action in response to harassment, including issuing a formal warning or removing the individual from the event at all future events, or reporting to formal authorities depending on the seriousness of the violation. Decisions are made by the Code of Conduct team in consultation with event leadership, and are final for the purposes of the event.

What is expected of every participant at online and offline events:

  • Be respectful. Treat others with decency and respect. Be patient with each other.

  • Respect personal boundaries. Ask before touching, hugging, or taking photos of/with someone. Anything but a “yes” means no.

  • Respect communities. Many of us work with vulnerable communities. Share their stories with consent, dignity, and accuracy, and avoid presenting people as case studies without their permission.

  • Respect privacy and data. Do not share personal information, recordings, or confidential discussions without permission.

  • Look out for each other. If you see something wrong, say something or tell a volunteer or an employee of T4GC

Steps to report misconduct

If you experience or witness a violation, or are simply unsure, please report it using one of the following methods below:

  • Reach out to Hazel Salonika Rolands, People & Culture Lead at T4GC at hazel@tech4goodcommunity.com, Phone number: 8971927558

  • Fill this  Anonymous form  if you prefer not to give your name.

  • You may also reach out to hello@tech4goodcommunity.com if you have any queries.

  • Emergency: For immediate danger or medical help, contact venue security or local emergency services (112 (police), 108 (ambulance), 1091 (women in distress helpline) first, then inform us.

When you report, it helps to share what happened, when and where, who was involved, and any witnesses. We will do our best to preserve anonymity and maintain confidentiality of those involved.  If information needs to be shared as part of an investigation, we will inform you wherever possible.

Reporting to T4GC does not limit your right to approach the police or any other authority.

Handling of Concerns and Grievances

Any concerns, grievances, or issues raised by participants, speakers, moderators, or other stakeholders will be reviewed internally by the organisation. The organisation will assess the nature, context, and merit of each concern and determine whether further action or escalation is warranted.

The decision to investigate, address, escalate, or close a matter rests solely with the organisation. Raising a concern does not automatically warrant escalation, and the organisation reserves the right to determine the appropriate course of action in accordance with its Code of Conduct and internal processes.

Responding to reports
  • A member of the Code of Conduct team will respond as promptly as possible, and during the event, within 2 working days.

  • Your report will be treated with discretion and shared only with those who need to know in order to act on it.

  • You will be told what steps are being taken, as far as is appropriate, and you may say what outcome you would like.

  • Concerns that fall under the PoSH policy will follow the Internal Committee process, including inquiry and timelines under the Act and our policy.

  • No one will be penalised for making a report in good faith.

Looking after the community

All T4GC event organisers and volunteers will be briefed on this Code and trained on how to respond to reports.

We review this Code at least once a year and welcome suggestions at hello@tech4goodcommunity.com.
